I need to update more!

My last update was in May! My, how I have been slacking!

It's a boy! Lucas Gavin Been was born on October 19th, 2011 @ 7:39am. He weighed in at 7lbs., 13oz. and 20.5" long! The labor and delivery went well. I started having contractions on the 18th at around 6:45am when I was getting ready for work. The contractions were 10 minutes apart and 30 seconds long. I left work around 2pm because I had a non-stress test at 3pm. When I went to the appointment they said the contractions were not close enough to be admitted yet. They told us that I would probably be back within 24 hours and to just go home and relax. I went to my parents and the whole way home the contractions were still 10 minutes apart but getting a bit stronger. We had Santucci's for dinner and I just tried to chill. My dad drove Jim and I home around 9pm, and told us that he would more than likely be calling out of work because he knew I would be calling him to take us to the hospital to have Lucas before midnight. So about 9pm the contractions started jumping around like crazy and lasted up to 60 seconds; it got to the point where I was trying to sleep just to keep my mind off of the cramping feeling of the contractions. I called the OB at about 10:45pm to tell her that the contractions were approximately 5-6 minutes apart and 45-60 seconds long for about an hour. Dr. Lexow told me to head to Abington because it was go time! (I would just like to add that having Dr. Lexow as the delivery doctor made me so happy, she is by far my favorite gyno in the practice)!

We get to the hospital a little after 11:30pm. I was admitted to triage and checked out. I was 3-4cm dilated! (good news since I had been stuck at 0-1cm for the past 4 weeks!). I had an IV inserted (which made me puke up my dinner). I was hooked up with a saline drip & then an antibiotic drip for the strep b +. I was finally set up in my L&D room around 1am or so. I used the bathroom & boy was that fun while hooked up to an IV! I then got settled in bed & relaxed. I refused an epidural (a few times). Around 3am I was given some awesome drug in my IV to help me sleep! GREATEST THING EVER! It only lasted about 45 minutes (2 hours my ass). But it was nice to relax & sleep for that short time. I woke up from my peaceful sleep with the urge to push during a strong contraction! I kept being told to breathe and not to push!

My water broke around 4am, there was some meconium in the water which prompted a call to the NICU, they had to have their doctors in the room when I delivered so that Lucas could be taken care of. I was checked shortly after my water broke & was 8cm. I was checked again around 6:45am and was just about 10cm. I was told that I wasn't going to have to push for as long as most first time moms. I started pushing at 7:15am, at 7:39am Lucas Gavin was born!! I had no epidural or pain meds; it was the greatest experience of my life & would definitely do it again....in a few years!!

Lucas was taken right away to be suctioned and checked out so I was not able to hold him for a while, I should also mention, he did not cry at first because of his bowl movement inside; just a little bit scary even after they warned me about it. I ended up with a 2nd degree tear (not too bad). I didn't need an episotomy because I tore everything myself, lol! But I preferred it that way. I also forgot to mention, I was texting the whole time I was in L&D!! I updated my status every time something happened or I progressed in dilation! The nurses were all amazed with me! It was funny how surprised they were that I had never been through this before and had no drugs! Lucas was born with A+ blood *just like his Daddy* which meant that I needed another Rhogam shot so that my future children are okay.

Life with Lucas has been great, the past 10 weeks have been non-stop craziness. Breastfeeding was tough, Lucas had a rough start with being taken suctioned and not being able to bond with me for a while after birth, Lactation consultants even had a difficult time getting him to latch on. To make it all worse, I never really had my milk fully come in. I was able to pump some milk for Lucas to get, but not what I wanted. I have a pump and everything. Lucas did finally start to latch on, but unfortunately it was a bit too late, by 4 weeks postpartum my milk dried up; I was really upset about it & felt like it was my fault. I know that it happens to a lot of women but it really does suck when it happens to you. We've been to the ER for formula aspiration. We went to the doctor every week from birth till 9 weeks between weight check-ins, ER follow ups, and catching a bronchial virus! Life with a newborn is very interesting sometimes! I love my little guy so much so it is all worth it!

The pregnancy was also fun ::sarcasm::. I started with just peeing every hour on the hour, then it moved on to tiredness all of the time, next was morning sickness! UGH! After that it was smooth sailing until week 24, I am RH- and had to receive the Rhogam shot. At 28 weeks, gestational diabetes test....which I failed with flying colors! Supposed to be 120, I was 126. I had the 3 hour test; had a tube drawn, drank glucola, 1 hour later....puked in the waiting room trashcan....end of test! I was treated as GD, had to test my blood sugar 4 times a day, "watch" my diet, report my blood sugar levels every week, had an ultrasound every month, and then finally had to have 2 non-stress test's a week! That was A LOT of visits to Abington Memorial Hospital! But again, totally worth it, my doctors and nurses were all amazing! Baby #2 will also one day be an AMH baby!
